Okinawa World is Okinawa Prefecture's foremost theme park and presents the local history, culture and nature all in one location. The parks main attraction is Gyokusendo. 5000 meter long cave that was formed approximately 300,000 years ago, it offers today a 890-meter promenade to the public. It was explored by professor Hiroshi Yamauchi of Ehime University in March 1967 when Okinawa was under U.S. occupation.
There are over 10 million naturally formed Stalactites, and it's the highest numbers in Japan
There was a golden table shaped Stalactite where water merged and became a river. The surface of the water was shining blue and beautiful. I could not get good photo of it because it's dark. It's named "Blue Fountain" Clickhere for the photo.
It was used for a new year variety show "Santaku" on January 3, 2011. They display this sign at that spot. A comedian, Sanma Akashiya and a singer and actor, Takuya Kimura explored the cave looking for a treasure.
The cave is one way. It took about 40 to 45 minutes walking and viewing inside. There is also a scenic village of old time Okinawa and workshops that allow experiencing Okinawa's traditional industrial heritage and local folk craft such as glass blowing and pottery.
