。。 "Visiting Japan A Year Later": My flight departed LAX around 1 pm on May 18th and arrived at Narita airport around 4:50 pm on May 19, 2011. It took me time to get the Internet connection and uploading photos at the hotel.
On my way to Narita, I flew on United Airline using airline mileages. You get one way air ticket to Japan from USA with 32500 miles. I was short by 170 miles, and I used 16250 miles and paid $490 or something.
International flights of United Airline departs from Terminal 7 instead of Tom Bradley International Terminal. I had 3 hours waiting time before departure, so I relaxed at the lounge with Nachos.... Sandwich and Salad were around $9 or $10. This Nachos was not that expensive.
It was raining in Los Angeles from 2 days prior, but it became clear and sunny from around 6 am on May 18th.
11 hours later the flight arrived at Narita airport. It was 80 F (26 C) degree, sunny and warm. The flight was full but only a few people, probably around 50 people, landed Narita airport as the final destination. The flight was heading to Seoul, Korea. It was my first time seeing little crowds at Narita Airport arrival lobby. Although some airlines started LAX to Haneda Airport flights, the impact of 3-11 Japan Earthquake, Tsunami, and Fukushima nuclear accident must be great.....
A view from my hotel room in Shinjuku, Tokyo.
Shinjuku Washington Hotel. They are offering special discounted rate at around 5000 yen ($62.50) per night as a Japan Relief for the disaster until June 30, 2011.
There were a few people also when I took the limousine shuttle bus from Narita airport to Shinjuku, Tokyo. I wore a raspitory mask to protect against the radiation on the first night. From the next day, I stopped wearing the mask, because they say the radiation level is low and safe in Tokyo. (You cannot see radiation, so I don't know though...) Most people I've seen in Tokyo are not wearing raspitory masks.
