今日から3日間沖縄に来てます。沖縄は初めてです。5月6日から梅雨入りし昨日まで土砂降りだったそう。今日は曇り時々晴れでした。明日も晴れの予報です。 "Okinawa Trip": I'm visiting Okinawa for the first time from today for 3 days. Okinawa went into the rainy season from May 6th and it rained cats and dogs until yesterday. It was cloudy and sunny today. It will be sunny tomorrow according to the forecast.
222人の女学生と18名の教師は日本軍に召集され、負傷軍人の医療活動に当たり、6月19日米軍に追いつめら194名死亡。 The Himeyuri students’ military unit was composed of 222 students and 18 teachers from the Okinawa normal school and the first girls’ high school, and was serving in the war as the nurse.
In the early morning of June 19, the gas shell was thrown by the US forces, into the third army field hospital in cave in which the Himeyuri students’ military unit was serving, and many of teachers and Himeyuri students were killed. Most of the surviving teachers and students were driven into the southern Arasaki seashore, threw themselves from the precipitous cliff and committed suicide. 194 students of totally 222 Himeyuri students’ military unit fell into victim.
健児の塔 学徒1780人のうち半数が戦死。鉄血勤皇隊が南部の断崖絶壁に追い詰められ最期を遂げた場所。生徒・職員307名を合祀。13～19歳の若さで戦闘に加わりました。1946年に師範学校の同窓生によって建てられたもの。 Kenji Monument 1780 male students between 13 and 19 were drafted by Japanese army. Half of them died in the war. US Army chased the survivors to the southern tip of the Okinawa island. This monument serves as a memorial for 307 students and teachers who diet at this cave. 沖縄県平和祈念資料館 Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum 米軍に包囲された日本兵、住民は、沖縄本島南部の荒崎海岸、魔文仁海岸の断崖絶壁に追い込まれた。投降しようとして日本兵に斬り殺された者、50mの断崖絶壁から身を投げて自殺した者、手榴弾で自殺した者、米軍の機銃掃射により戦死した者等、13万人の日本兵、住民がこの地で犠牲となりました。沖縄戦跡国定公園として整備され、沖縄県平和祈念資料館、沖縄平和祈念堂、国立沖縄戦没者墓苑、平和の礎など、慰霊施設、慰霊碑、慰霊塔、平和祈念施設が多く建てられ、例年6月23日沖縄県主催の沖縄全戦没者追悼式が開かれているそう。
沖縄県平和祈念資料館 Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum Finally the Japanese soldiers and Okinawan citizens who were surrounded by the US Forces were driven into the precipitous cliff of the Arasaki seashore and the Mabuni seashore of the southern tip of the Okinawa Main Island. 130 thousand Japanese soldiers and Okinawan citizens, those who were going to surrender were killed with sword by Japanese soldiers, those threw themselves and committed suicide from the 50m precipitous cliff, those committed suicide with the hand grenade, and those were killed in the battle by the machine-gun and mopping-up of the US Forces in these area.
Today the spot is developed as the Okinawa War Memorial Quasi-National Park, and many memorial institutions, cenotaphs, peace memorial towers, such as the Mabuni Hill Memorial Park, the sobering Okinawa Prefectural Peace Memorial Museum, the Okinawa Peace Memorial Hall, the National Cemetery for the Okinawa War Dead, Heiwa-no-ishiji the Cornerstone of Peace are stood. Every year, the Okinawa prefecture-sponsored Okinawa memorial ceremony for all the war dead is held in the Mabuni Hill Memorial Park on June 23.
