Hydrangea@Hakozaki-gu: Hakozaki-gu Temple is located in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka-shi, Fukuoka Prefecture and is one of Japan's three great Hachimangu temples. Hakozaki-gu was first established in 921 during the Heian period, under the authorization of Emperor Daigo. A magnificent temple was built here and, in 923, was transferred from the Chikuzendaibu-gu. It has long tradition and culture. It is also cherished with beautiful flower gardens and festivals year around. I will show you the photos of Hydrangea flowers taken at this temple in June 2008. I visited the garden with my mother.
There are 3500 stumps of colorful Hydrangea flower. During the Hydrangea exhibit, there were events of mini classic concerts, Flute ensembles, Garden Tea Ceremonies, etc. Hydrangea exhibit is from June 1st to June 30, every year. I recommend visiting this Hydrangea exhibit next year, if you could not make it this year. In Hakata, Fukuoka, it will be the season to enjoy "Yamakasa Festival" in July.
In mid September, there will be "Houjoue" festival at Hakozaki-gu Shrine. Over 1 million people will be there. Lately they light-up shrines and temples during that period, and it became another landmark to visit.
