Ramenya@West LA: On Saturday 3/28/09, I went to a Ramen noodle shop named "RAMENYA" with a friend MA. "Ramenya" means "Ramen Noodle Shop" in Japanese. Over 15 years ago, a Yakitori restaurant named "YAKITORIYA" opened along Sawtelle Blvd. near by. "RAMENYA" opened little after "YAKITORIYA."
こんがり焼けた餃子。 Gyoza Dumpling. Burned Brown at the bottom for crunchiness.
There are vast varieties of Ramen noodles here. I was wondering among Curry Ramen, Tan-tan Noodle, Tenshin han (Shrimp Omlet) Noodle, Green Vegetable Ramen. Recently I started to eat spicy foods, so I ordered Tan-tan Noodle. It had 2 red pepper mark. It looks very spicy.
海老チャーハンとスープ。 Shrimp Fried Rice and Soup. From Rice Set Menu.
Friend MA ordered Shrimp Fried Rice and Soup set from Rice Set items listed on the back page of the menu, and she shared me some Shrimp Fried Rice. It was fluffy and deliciously cooked. She treated me for Tan-tan Noodle and Gyoza Dumplings, too. Thank you!
That place was full house with lots of people. Most customers are local American. There were young people and older people, too. They have a parking lot for 4 to 5 cars. Most-likely you need to park on the street at a meter parking.

Next day after visiting "RAMENYA" I picked up a "Japan Up!" monthly English magazine. April 2009 issue features "RAMEN Japanese Noodle."
In April 2009 issue of "Japan Up!," the publisher himself visited many Ramen noodle shops in Greater Los Angeles Area (Los Angeles County and Orange County) and listed the photos and reviews of the ramen shop's most popular menu. There are listing for about 25 Ramen noodle shops. It was interesting. I believe there are more than 40 Ramen noodle shops in Greater Los Angeles.
There are a Free Gyoza Dumpling coupon at "Ramenya," a free Flavored Egg coupon at "Santoka Ramen," a free Karaage (Fried) Chicken coupon from "Chin-Ma-Ya of Tokyo."
Also they are introducing Japanese Ramen noodles by the area, ordering additional items, and Toppings in English.
I believe "Koraku" is the oldest Japanese Ramen noodle shop in Los Angeles. It opend on the 2nd Street in Little Tokyo around 30 years ago. Later they opend another restaurant in Torrance and another one in Sherman Oaks. As I checked their ad on "Japan Up!" magazine, they opened one in Las Vegas, too. "Koraku" has varieties of menu selections including sweets such as, Shaved Ice, Red beans and fruits, Fruit Parfait. They open most locations until 1 AM or 3 AM.
The next oldest will be "Shinsengumi." It opened "Hakata Shinsengumi" Ramen shop in Gardena about 25 years ago. In the recent 5 years, it expanded to Fountain Valley and Rosemead. They also opened a Yakitori shop and Ramen shop inside Marukai Pacific Market's Food Court. At Shinsengumi Rosemead, they are having 50% off special sale on "Vegetable Cold Noodle" from 4/6/2009 to 4/10/2009, at $3.50.
Santouka opened in Los Angeles around 4 and a half years ago. First it opened inside Mitsuwa Market Torrance. Now they have a location in Mitsuwa Costa Mesa, San Diego, too. I believe they opened the first USA store in New Jersey inside Mitsuwa around 5 years ago. They also have one in Chicago, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
There is a Ramen noodle homepage called "Rameniac.com" It covers many Ramen noodle shops in English in both USA and Japan with photos, and it's very interesting. Also there is a site called "Go Ramen." It lists Ramen rankings in Los Angeles area. It's interesting.
It seems there are more and more American people who love Ramen noodles these days.
