Kumano Sushiya@Rancho PV, Not Recommended: We went to "Kumano Sushiya" in Rancho Palos Verdes for the first time on Saturday, little awhile ago. A sign on the front said, "Kumano" in Japanese and "SUSHIYA" in English.
We thought of not entering the restaurant, because there was only one customer inside, but we entered. We drove there from Torrance/Redondo area, taking 405 and 110 Freeway.
When we showed a $25 Gift Certificate from Restaurant.com, we could not order Lunch Special and Combination Sushi or Combination Lunch Menu. We had to order over $50 food items from Appetizers, Sushi Ala Cart and Special Rolled Sushi Menu.
We ordered Seaweed Salad, Miso Soup, Aloha Roll, Spicy Baby Lobster Roll, and Yokozuna Roll.
スパイシー・ベービー・ロブスターロール。激辛でした。 Spicy Baby Lobster Roll
When we ordered a hot tea for drink, a green tea with a tea bag was served. At good Japanese Sushi Restaurants, they serve green tea with loose tea leaves specially made to suit suishi for free. Serving green tea with a tea bag is done usually at take-out sushi places. Something is not right.
They served seaweed salad. That was bright green colored imitation seaweed. We were expecting natural Wakame seaweed with darker color. It was seasoned with sesami oil. Japanese seaweed salad is usually seasoned with rice vinegar. It's not what we expected.
Aloha Roll was served. It had Albacore Tuna and fresh Halapeno pepper. It takes sesami oil again. The pepper was so spicy.
Next, Spicy Baby Lobster Roll was served. It had red hot sauce on it. I had one piece, and quit eating it. My mouth was on fire, too spicy
At last, Yokozuna Roll was served. It had Tuna, Salmon, and Egg inside. It was not spicy, but after eating a piece of it, I went to bathroom. The fish was not fresh. That afternoon, I went to bathroom 5 times with upset stomach or something.
The sushi chef and waitress seemed to be a couple. There was nobody else. They did not speak Japanese. They looked Asian American. A young couple was running that sushi restaurant.
The Restaurant.com listed that place as "Japanese," so I felt cheated. It was not authentic Japanese Sushi Restaurant.
With $2 each for green tea and 18% tips added before deducting $25, the total for two was $45. Because of slow Economy, maybe less customers are coming to that restaurant. But I thought I should check reviews more carefully before visiting a restaurant for the first time. That was a good lesson learned.
