LAFirestorms in North and South East:I found Maple leaves changing colors near Mitsuwa Market Torrance store, so I went there little after noon. It was supposed to be sunny, but the sky was dark and it smelled smokes. Ashes were falling from the sky, too.
Later I found out that there are several wild fires in Nothern Los Angeles suburbs and South Eastern Los Angeles suburbes today.
A wild fire started in Corona around 9 AM on 11/15/08 (1 AM on 11/16/08 in Japan), and it spread along 91 Free Way through Chino Hills and Riverside. The wind changed direction, and it went through Chino Hills and spread to Yorba Linda, Anaheim Hills, and Brea. At least 5800 acares have been burned. 1100 fire-fighters have been battling with the fires, but only 5 % was contained. At least 11000 people evacuated. It is named as "Freeway Complex Fire."
It's been 4 days since several Firestorms errupted in Los Angeles suburbs. They have not been contained, yet. More than 41,000 acres and 1000 properties were destroyed.
Especially in South Eastern Los Angeles, where firestorms spread to 4 counties, such as Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, and San Bernadino counties, and called "Freeway Complex Fire" or "Triangle Comlex Fire" spread in vast space. From yesterday morning, it spread to Diamond Bar. It chared 800 properties. There was a fire in Anaheim city (where Disneyland is located), but it was put out immediately.
A picture speaks 1000 words. I will upload some YouTube video clips.....

In Japan, it's been reported as "Mountain Fire", but it did not occur in mountains. The firestorms have been burning in residential areas in foothills, fueled by 65 miles (104 kilo meters) per hour gusty Santa Ana winds. I wish they change naming from "Mountain Fire" to "Firestorms" or something.
My coworker mentioned there was a fire in Rancho Palos Verdes, last Saturday morning. It was at her neighbor's house. The fire was put out by fire-fighters right away.
I saw it on TV yesterday about some housing spared from the firestorms although the surrounding wooden houses were burned. The house was constructed with concrete cement. It's probably time to think about "fire-proofing" our houses in Southern California.
追記/Update (11/20/2008 7 PM LAX --11/21/2008 12PM Japan time):
Los Angeles Firestorms have been contained. I am glad.
"Motecito Fire"near Santa Barbara was started from Students' bonfire. 10 Students built a bonfire a day before. They thought they extinguished it upon leaving the site, but fire started with Santa Ana winds Thursday, 11/13/08. It spread to near by homes. 1000 homes were destroyed.
The cause of Sylmar Sayre Firestorm has not been identified.
