Summer Festival @Mitsuwa ミツワ 夏祭り ハワイアンダンス?

先週末7月19日と20日はミツワマーケット トーレンス店の恒例夏祭り。
さっそく両日行ってきました。

日曜日の昼過ぎ、ステージでハワイアンダンスが始まった。
ラムネ早飲みコンテストや万歩計フリフリコンテストなどが行われたあと。

日本の夏祭りなのに、ハワイアンダンス?
そういう細かいことはロサンゼルスでは気にしていられません。
楽しければなんでもあり。人が多く集まれば何でもOK!

Last weekend, on July 19th and 20th, 2008,
there was Mitsuwa Summer Festival at Mitsuwa Market Torrance branch.
I went there on both days.

It was a Japanese summer festival,
but there was a Hawaiian dancing on the stage in the afternoon.

Why Hawaiian dancing?
Well, as long as it's fun and lots of people enjoy it,
it's O.K. They don't care.

Eel Curry 石焼うなぎカレー

夏と言えばうなぎとカレーが食べたくなります。
両方を一度に食べれるメニューがあります。

カレーハウスの　うなぎ石焼カレーライス　です。

この石焼カレーライスのトッピングは、うなぎの他に、
リブアイステーキ、シーフード、カツ　（　ビーフ、ポーク、チキン　）　があります。

さっそく、今晩カレーハウスで　石焼うなぎカレーライスを食べました。

うなぎのたれはうなぎにかけてあります。

全体に上からカレーソースをかけて、混ぜて食べます。

韓国風石焼ビビンバ用の石鍋をあつあつに熱してあるところがミソ。


平日のランチタイムには出していません。
作るのに少々時間がかかるからだそう。


In Summer, I feel like eating eel and curry.

There is a perfect menu to eat both at the same time.

It's Stone Grilled Eel Curry Rice at Curry House Restaurant.

For topping of this Stone Grilled Curry Rice,
there are other varieties, such as:
Rib Eye Steak, Seafood, Katsu (Beef, Pork, and Chicken).

Tonight I went to have a Stone Grilled Eel Curry.

They don't serve the stone grilled curry rice during weekday lunch time.
Perhaps, it's because it takes time to warm up stone pots.

The stone pot is heated well and sizzling hot like Korean stone grilled bibimpa.

Koishikawa Korakuen Iris 小石川後楽園 花菖蒲

6月10日東京都文京区にある小石川後楽園に行きました。
花菖蒲(ハナショウブ)が満開でした。

東京の都心にあり読売巨人の本拠地東京ドームのお隣にあります。
季節ごとの花が楽しめる美しい日本庭園です。

池の亀の親子をみたり、蓮池でボーットしたり。

あと、帰りに食べたずんだ(枝豆)ソフトクリームが美味しかった。

I visited Koishiwara Korakuen park on Tuesday, 6/10/2008.
It was built in 1629 by Mr.Yorifusa Mito.

You can enjoy seasonal flowers at this beautiful Japanese garden.

Hanashoubu, Japanese Iris was in full bloom that day.

I spent my time walking in the park, watching turtles in the pound, and relaxed.
They also serve soft ice cream at a shop at the entrance.
I liked their Zunda flavor, it's made of soy bean edamames.

It is located in the heart of Tokyo, next to Tokyo Dome, where Yomiuri Giants baseball team plays.

Curry House Takeout カレーがモールに出現

サウスベイ ギャラリア3階フードコートにカレーが登場。
25年前からロサンゼルスでレストランを展開する
ハウス食品のカレーハウスのブース。

6月と7月は、ローカル情報誌 [ライトハウス] にクーポンがある。
そのクーポンを持参すれば、どのカレーも$5で食べれる。

1. まず8種類の中からカレーを選ぶ、
照焼チキン、ビーフ、すき焼きビーフ、ポークカツ、チキンカツ、ビーフカツ、海老フライなど。

2. サイズをレギュラー(大)かスモール(小)を選ぶ、
3. ごはんかスパゲティーを選ぶ
4. カレーをHOTかMILDか選ぶ。
5. HERE かTOGO (お持ち帰り) かを告げる。

通常価格はレギュラーが6ドルから7ドル弱ぐらい。
スモールが4ドル弱から5ドル弱ぐらい。

他にハウスサラダ($1.62)、豆腐サラダ($2.31)、コーンスープ($2ぐらい)、
カレーパン($1.66)、やかき氷(シェーブドアイス)がある。

7月に入ってから4回、海老フライカレー食べた。レギュラーでちょうど2回分の量。
スモールでちょうどいい量だが、$5クーポンがあるので、レギュラーをTOGOで買った。

At Southbay Galleria mall, you will find a Curry Rice at the food court.
It's operated by Curry House Restaurant.
House Foods Corporation has been managing curry restaurants
for 25 years in Los Angeles area.

In June and July 2008, you will find three $5 coupons
in their advertisement in "Lighthouse"local info magazine.
One coupon is good for one meal.
Any curry is $5 plus tax with this coupon.

1. Select curry topping from a menu of 8 different curry
Teriyaki Chicken, Sukiyaki Beef, Pork Cutlet, Chicken Cutlet, Beef Cutlet,
Fried Shrimp, Beef, and etc.

2. Select "Regular" or "Small" size.
3. Select "Rice" or "Spaghetti"
4. Select "Hot" or "Mild" curry sauce
5. Specify it for "HERE" or "TO GO"

Regular size curries are priced at $6 to $7.
Small size curries are priced at $3.95 to $4.95.

They have House Salad ($1.62), Tofu Salad ($2.31), Corn Potage ($2),
Curry Pan ($1.66), and Shaved Ice with several flavors.

I tried Fried Shrimp Curry 4 times in July so far.
One Regular size curry is good for two meals.
One Small size curry is just the right size for me, but in order to use $5 coupon,
I ordered a Regular size curry to go and saved half for the next meal.

Bridge Summer Festival ブリッジ夏祭り

7月13日日曜日午前10時から午後7時まで第13回
ブリッジＵＳＡ社主催夏祭りがトーレンスシビックセンターで開催された。

やぐらの周りでは盆踊り、阿波踊りなどの催しがある。
それを囲むように射的、輪投げ、ヨーヨー釣り、
バスケットボールのシュートなどのゲームのブースが並ぶ。

奥の野外会場ではステージが設置され、ダンスや
カラオケ大会を開催。
今年のカラオケ大会優勝賞金は1000ドルだった。

ステージがある野外海上では食べ物のブースが並ぶ。
焼き鳥、お好み焼き、ジン丼（ジンギスカン風どんぶり）、
たこ焼き、焼きそば、いか焼き、焼きとうもろこし、
冷たいパイナップル、コーンドッグ、クレープ、カキ氷など。

感想としては、
去年の2倍以上の人手に疲れました。
台湾系中国人の10代20代の子やアメリカ人が多かった。

ブリッジＵＳＡ社では去年秋か冬ぐらいから、日本語のローカル雑誌の他に
中国語のローカル雑誌の編集と無料配布を始めた。

それを読んだ中国系読者層の参加が多かったのだろう。

アメリカ人で来ていたのは、たぶん最近日本のＢ級グルメが
一部アメリカ人の間で流行っているからだろう。

焼きとうもろこしといか焼きを買うのに炎天下50分も並んだ。

1時40分ごろ到着し、まずはビールと焼き鳥のつくねで一杯。
それから、お好み焼き、いか焼き、焼きとうもろこし、
とたて続けに食べた。

On Sunday, 7/13/08, I wen to the 13th
Bridge USA Summer Festival at Torrance Civic Center.
It was held for one day from 10 AM to 7 PM.

Threre were a lot of people, probably twice as much of last years.
There were lots of Chinese people around 15 to 25 years old.

Bridge USA started to publish local info magazine in Chinese
from last Fall or Winter besides Japanese local info magatine,
maybe, that is why there are more Chinese people at the festival.

They had traditional Japanese games, Japanese folk dances around the yagura tower,
and a Karaoke contest.
The champion received $1000 as a prize.

There are several food booths with long lines.
I had Yakitori chicken, Okonomi-yaki (Japanese pizza pancake),
grilled sweet corn, and a grilled squid with a glass of beer.

The line for sweet corn and squid was 50 minute long.

Cafe Del Rey カフェ デル レイ

7月6日日曜日、マリナデルレイのヨットハーバーを眺める
パシフィック料理カフェ デル レイでブランチをご馳走になる。

3コースのサンデーブランチが38ドル。
シャンペーン、スパークリングサイダー、ミモザ、ソフトドリンクなどのドリンク付き。

総料理長 ジェーソン ニーダーコーンのおりなす
カリフォルニアフレンチ、和食を採り入れた創作料理。

グランドピアノ、フルート、サクソフォーンなどのジャズ生演奏。

ヨットハーバーの眺めとあいまって、ぜい沢な空間ができあがる。

料理も評判どおり申し分ない。

さて一番奥の7人テーブルをあてがわれた6人の私たち。

クラブケーキ、ヒラメのフライパン ソテー生姜汁添えを選ぶ。
デザートには3種類のフルーツシャーベットを選ぶ。
飲み物は、シャンペーン。

シーフード刺し身サラダのメインディッシュも味見したが
美味しかった。

このお店は人気がある。
スターを見かけることも多いらしい。

On Sunday, 7/6/2008, I went to Cafe Del Rey for a Sunday brunch.

A 3 course pre-set meal Sunday brunch was served at $38.
It included a glass of champagne, mimosa or sparkling cider.

An executive chef is Jason Niederkorn.
He creats California French, Japanese and Pacific influenced creative dishes.

A live Jazz music of piano, flute, and saxophone is provided.
With a spectacular view of Marina, it creates a luxury atmosphere.

As its reputation, the food is excellent.

Six of us were seated at a table that seats 7 at the corner in the back.
I selected Crab cake and Pan fried Halibut,
and Trio of House-made Sorbets for dessert with a glass of champagne.

I tasted Seafood Sashimi Salad, and it tasted good.

This restaurant is very popular.
It is known for celebrities sighting as well.

6月29日日曜日レドンドビーチ キングハーバーの
キンケイド レストランにディナーに行く。
午後7時の予約でした。

ここのダイニングクラブメンバーなので、誕生日などに$20のEメールクーポンをくれる。
今回も$20もらったのでそれを利用。

ここはシーフードとネブラスカビーフが美味しい。

デイリースペシャル メニューの中から、
ひらめのソテーとハワイアンアヒまぐろのたたきを選ぶ。
シーザースサラダを前菜にする。

ここのイタリアブレッドも焼き立てでおいしい。
おかわりし放題。

予約の時に誕生日と告げていたので、誕生日のお祝いに
キャンドルをたてたクリームブリューリを出してくれた。

ここのワインのセレクションはまーまーいいが、
ビールが古めで美味しくないのが難点。

海に囲まれたロケーション。
窓際の席から太平洋の海に落ちる夕陽を眺めるのが絶景だ。

On Sunday, 6/29/2008, We went to Kincaid's Restaurant
at Redondo Beach Harbor for a dinner.
We made a reservation at 7 PM.

I am a member of their Dining Club, so they email me a $20 email coupon for
occasions, such as a birthday.
This time I received a $20 email coupon, and I used it.

Their seafood and Nebraska beef are great.

We selected "Halibut" and "Hawaiian Ahi Tuna Seared"
from the daily special menu.

We ordered Caesar's Salad to share.
Their Italian bread is really good, and always baked fresh and hot.
You can ask for second's or third's for free.

I mentioned "the occasion was for a birthday" while making a reservation,
they served a "Creme Blurie" with a birthday candle on the house.

Their wine selections are good,
but their beers are not fresh and not cold enough.

This restaurant in Redondo Beach location is surrounded by ocean.
It is beautiful and magnaficient to watch a sun setting in ocean
from your window seats at this restaurant.

Cold Stone Cremery Ice Cream コールドストーンクリーマリー

ブログ[ガイドブックでは教えてくれないロサンゼルスの話]に
掲載されていたコールドストーンクリーマリーアイスクリームの検証

今日ランチタイムにトーレンス店に食べに行きました。

ストロベリーショートケーキ 中くらいのサイズで6ドルでした。
サイズにして480MLぐらいでしょうか。

花崗岩でできたプレートの上でアイスクリームを混ぜてくれるところが売りです。


まぜまぜしているところ、
ビデオにとりました。

お持ち帰り家庭用アイスクリーム 1クオート (948ML) は7ドルでした。
こちらは前もってまぜまぜしてあり、お得です。

ストロベリーショートケーキアイスクリームは美味しかった!
まぜてあるせいか、とってもクリーミーでした。




I tried Cold Stone Cremery Ice cream
I found on another person's blog.

I went to a Torrance branch during lunch time today.
It was $6 for a medium size, about 480 ML.

This store is famous for mixing ice cream on a cold granite plate before serving.

I took a video clip when the server was mixing
the ice cream on a cold granite stone.

A take home ice cream in the freezer section is $7 for 1 Quart ( 948 ML).
They pre-mix the ice cream, but it's a good price for the size.

The strawberry shortcake ice cream I had tasted great.
It was so creamy!

Sea Empress Seafood 海皇海鮮酒家

6月29日12時に予約を入れ友人らと3人で飲茶を食べる。
場所はガーディナ市パシフィックスクウエア内のシーエンプレス・シーフード海皇海鮮酒家。

飲茶は平日は午前11時から、週末は午前10時から開いている。

ビールで乾杯し、小龍包、えびのシュウマイ、ホタテのシュウマイ、豚シューマイ、ピーマンのエビ肉詰め、もち米の蓮の葉巻き、中華ブロッコリーなどあれこれつまむ。

おいしくて大満足でした。

On Sunday, 6/29/08, I went to have dim sum Chinese lunch with my friends.
It's at Sea Empress Seafood Restaurant in Pacific Square Mall in Gardena, CA.

They are open for dim-sun from 11 AM on weekdays and from 10 AM on weekends.

We toasted cheers with beer, and then, tasted Shrimp har gow, Scallop and shrimp har Gow, Pork juicy dumplings, Stuffed bel peppers, Chinese broccoli, and Sticky rice and Lotus leef.

It tasted great and we were full.

Bellagio Conservatory 4 "Early Summer"温室 初夏

ラスベガスのベラージオカジノホテルには、季節や行時ごとに飾りつけられた温室（Conservatory) がある。
5月28日朝８時過ぎから訪れた時は「初夏とアメリカンホリデー」仕様。
朝から多くの人で賑わっていました。写真をアップします。

アメリカ各地を電車で旅している気分です。
植物で飾られた蒸気機関車あり、ミニチュア機関車が線路を走り、アメリカ国旗が並び、マウント・ラシュモアあり、熊の親子あり、はげ鷹の親子あり、の楽しい飾りつけでした。
そして勿論最終目的地はベラージオカジノホテルです。

At Bellagio Casino Hotel in Las Vegas, NV, there is a botanical garden, called "the conservatory". They decorate for each season and holiday event.
I uploaded several photos from my visit on 5/28/08. It was 8 AM, and there were a lot of visitors at the botanical garden.　

The display was "Early Summer and American Holiday".
It displayed American sceneries, such as Mount Rushmore, and other mountain sides, American flags, and a steam engine train.
In there miniature trains run through greeting bears and falcons.
It was like traveling through USA by train. The last destination was off course, Bellagio Hotel.

July 4th Firework 独立記念日の花火

7月4日はアメリカ独立記念日の祭日です。
モールでランチしたあとは、昼すぎから映画館で映画「Wanted」を見て、一旦帰宅。
8時前に家を出て友人とトーレンス市ウイルソン公園で午後9時から行われる花火大会を見に行った。
かなり離れたところに車を停め、30分歩いて会場となる公園へ。

その公園では午前11時から野外ロックコンサートが開催され、いろいろなブースが並び、道具を持ってきてＢＢＱする家族ずれなど、2万から3万人の人手で賑わった。公園の広さは44エーカー。

花火は午後9時2分ごろから、2分ほどのアメリカ国歌斉唱のあと始まる。
花火は去年よりも豪華だった。
30分間華麗な色とりどりの花火が大輪の花のように夜空を舞い、大観衆の歓声のなか盛大に終了。今年もここの花火を見に来て、大満足でした。

July 4th is an American Independence Day holiday.
After having a lunch at a shopping mall, I saw a movie "Wanted" and returned home.
I left home around 8 PM, picked up a friend to go see a spectacular firework show from 9 PM at Wilson Park, Torrance, CA.

There were rock concerts from 11 AM at that park with lots of booths for merchant items and foods.
It was crowded with lots of people, probably 20,000 to 30,000 people on the lawn in the 44 acre park.

The firework started around 9:02 PM, followeing a singing of National Anthem.
It was spectacular and magnificent.
Many fireworks spread the beauty like large flowers in the dark sky during the 30 minute firework show.

It was better in quality and quantity compared to last year.
We were glad to have gone there and experienced the firework show again.
