DREAM ON @LA

12月30日サンディエゴ動物園のパンダ再訪。去年7月29日に生まれた赤ちゃんパンダの公開を期待して。その赤ちゃんパンダ「シャオリュー」は今日、1月10日から午前9時半～11時半に公開されています。
（生後3歳5ヶ月のユンザ/ Yun Zi, 3 year and 5 months old ↓ )

"Pandas at San Diego Zoo": I re-visited San Diego Zoo on Dec. 30, 2012 with hopes to see a new born baby panda, born on July 29, 2012. I could not see the baby panda, Xiao Liwu in person. He finally debuted for public viewing from today, Jan. 10, 2013 between 9:30 am and 11:30 am daily.

ユンザは大きくなりました。今ではお父さんのガウガウより大きいそうです。

片道2時間半かけて高速を飛ばし日帰り旅行でした。サンタモニカの友人を迎えに行ったので往復1時間プラスで、往復6時間の道のりでした。

Yun Zi grew up so big! Now he is bigger than his father, Gao Gao.

It takes 2 and a half hours by driving free ways one way from my house in South Bay area. I went to pick up a friend in Santa Monica, so it took 6 hours both ways.

本当に大きくなりました～。。。3歳半にして、もうこの大きさ。。。

サンディエゴ動物園で生まれたパンダは3歳を過ぎたら、中国四川省のパンダリサーチセンターに送り返すことになってるので、ユンザもあと1年以内に旅立つでしょう。。。

Panda cubs born at San Deigo Zoo are sent back to Panda Research Center in Sichuan province, China after passing 3 years old according to the panda loan program. I believe Yun Zi will be traveling to China within one year.....

ガオガオ /Gao Gao
こちらがお父さんパンダのガオガオです。四川省の山から保護された野生パンダです。推定1992年生まれ、21歳。2003年にサンディエゴ動物園に来ました。

Here is the father panda, Gao Gao. He was rescued in the wild in Sichuan, China. He is estimated to be born in 1992, 21 years old. He came to San Diego Zoo in 2003.

He kept laying down and eating in bamboo bushes.......

7月29日生まれ。生後5ヶ月半。

写真は、サンディエゴ動物園のサイトから拝借しました。　パンダちゃんの様子を「パンダカメラ」からネット上で見れます。

He was born on July 29, 2012. He is 5 and a half year old.
I borrowed his photos from San Diego Zoo website. You can watch him live through the Panda Cam on Internet.

パンダを見たあと、北極熊２匹、コアラちゃん（仮設住宅）を観て、2階建てバスに乗って動物園全体の案内をきき、午後4時前に車に戻りました。雨が降り出し、30分ほど土砂降りでした。

すると右手前方に二重の虹が出ました～。。

After seeing Pandas, we went to see two Pola Bears in north side and Koalas in a temporary housing in the North. We got on the double-Decker bus and toured around the zoo. We returned to my car little before 4 pm. It started to rain. It rained heavily for 30 minutes.

Then, we saw double-rainbows on our right front side ~!

サンディエゴサファリパークを11月22日感謝祭に訪問。こことサンディエゴ動物園を何度でも利用できる年間パスを所有。今年はまだ1度も行ってなかったので大分元取れました。

San Diego Safari Park: We revisited on Thanksgiving Day, Nov.22, 2012. I have a season pass for here and San Diego Zoo. I did not use it this year, so I got some of the money worth.

朝から晴天で気持ちのいい日でした。

It was sunny and nice from early morning that day.

アフリカ・サファリの雰囲気だすために、ジープが置いてあります。

A jeep is placed there to make you feel like you are in African Safari.

絶滅種のユキヒョウ。その生態などを説明してくれました。

Snow Leopard is an endangered animal. A stuff explained the life style of Snow Leopard.




アフリカンアウトポスト・・バス
African Outpost Bus
これに乗ってサファリパークを一周しながら、案内してくれます。35分ほど。
ここまで来るのに、サファリパーク入り口から徒歩15分以上です。

This bus will drive a round and guide through the Safari Park. It's about 35 minutes. It takes more than 15 minutes on foot to get here from the Safari Park entrance.

It was around $9. Romaine Lettuce, Roasted Red Onion, Carrots, and Red Bell Pepper are wrapped with a Wheat Tortilla.

ボス（オス）ゴリラ1頭、メス2頭、赤ちゃん（見えないけど）1頭いました。

There were one male Boss Gorilla, two female Gorilla, and one baby Gorilla. The baby went out of the photo focus point. Sorry.

今年8月初めにサンディエゴ動物園で生まれた赤ちゃんパンダに11月13日、生後100日目を記念して名前がつけられました。シャオリュー（Little Gift~小さな贈り物)です。

生後4ヶ月~5ヶ月経つとやっと一般公開されます。今月クリスマス頃、公開されるのではないかな～？と期待してます。

A panda baby born beginning of August 2012 at San Diego Zoo was named on Nov. 13, 2012, 100 days from the birth. His name is "Xiao Liwu" which means "Little Gift."

I'm expecting the baby panda to be shown public around Christmas 2012, 4 to 5 months old from the birth.

サンディエゴ動物園に7月4日、8月7日、10月10日再訪しました。サンディエゴ動物園とサファリパークでは10月は毎日キッズフリー（お子様入場無料）だそう。赤ちゃんパンダのユンザ君、コアラなどにささっと会ってきました。

"Baby Panda@San Diego Zoo": I visited San Diego Zoo on July 4th, August 7th, and October 10th this year. At San Diego Zoo and Safari Park, it's "Kids Free" every day in October, 2011. The admission to the zoo and Safari Park for children are free. I went to see the baby panda, Yun Zi and Koalas, mainly.

Yun Zi was born on August 5, 2009 at San Diego Zoo. I will post photos taken on August 7, 2011. Yun Zi was 2 years and 2 days old. It was not crowded that day and I got great pictures and video clips.

満3歳の誕生日を過ぎたら、中国四川省のパンダ保護センターに送る約束らしいです。あと1年ちょっとです。。。

Their agreement is to send baby Pandas born here at San Diego Zoo to Panda Research Center in China, when the panda is passed 3 year old birthday. It's another year or so....




7月30日にオープンした「パンダ・トレック」。パンダちゃんを見るには、展示物を見ながら中で並びます。私達が入った時はほとんど並んでませんでした。見終わったあとに行くと、こんだけ並んでました。

"PANDA TREK" opened on 7/30/2011. There are some exhibits. You will line up in there to view Panda's. We did not have to wait that much when we got there. But the wait line got longer after we finished viewing Yun Zi.

サンディエゴ市内バルボアパーク内にあります。その近辺はWi－FI電波が多いせいか、GPSが上手く作動せず、ぐるぐる同じ所を何度も回されました。ご注意ください。

It's located inside Balboa Park, San Diego City. There are multiple Wi-Fi waves around the area, GPS navigator did not work. It kept telling me to make a right, right, right, right...., making me to keep circling a block. Please be careful.

サンディエゴ動物園の赤ちゃんパンダ「ユンザ」は今日で満2歳です。
お誕生日おめでとう。 Happy Birthday　　

Happy Birthday, Panda Yun Zi: The panda cub, Yun Zi is celebrating his 2nd birthday today at San Diego Zoo. He was born on August 5, 2009. We went to see panda Yun Zi again on July 4th, 2011, 8 months after I've seen him on November 13, 2010.


久々に7月4日に会いに行きました。去年11月13日以来、８ヶ月ぶりでした。

サンディエゴ動物園では、8月1日から6日まで、パンダ・ユンザ2歳誕生日週間です。年間パスを持ってるのでお知らせのEメールが来てました。

San Diego Zoo is having Panda Yunza Birthday Week from Aug.1 to Aug.6, 2011 or something. I received an email newsletter, because I am a season pass holder.

入ってすぐの下の方にいました。ガラスの壁の真下。

Yun Zi was sitting right below the glass wall near the entrance.

ユンザちゃんは、歩いて後のハンモックに移動。やっとこれで写真撮影しやすくなりました。可愛い！

Yun Zi walked and moved to the hammock behind at the tree. Now we can take photos of him easily. He is cute!


竹笹を食べたり、遊んだり。よく動きます。



He was eating bamboos and played around.



ずっと観ていたいけど、早く動くように係りの人に最速されます。。。

I wanted to keep watching him, but I was told to move for others waiting.


いいお天気でした。観終わって出ると、長い行列が。。これぐらいだと45分待ちでしょうか？

It was a sunny day. After we were done, the line was long. It's probably 45 minute wait with this kind of line...

サンディエゴ動物園の赤ちゃんパンダに会いに行きました。先週土曜日11月13日、14ヶ月ぶりです。
"Baby Panda@San Diego Zoo": We visited San Diego Zoo to see a baby panda, Yun Zi last Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010. It's been 14 months since I visited the zoo previous time.

去年8月5日生まれのヤン・ジンちゃんオスに初対面です。去年9月に来た時は生後1ヶ月。お母さんパンダと奥の部屋で過ごしてました。2009年クリスマスイブにお披露目したらしいです。

It will be the first time to see the baby boy panda, Yun Zin. When I visited last September, Yun Zin was just 1 month old and staying in the back room with his mother. Yun Zin was revealed to the public on Christmas Eve in 2009.

去年９月はお姉さんパンダ・スーリン（8・2・05生まれ）とジェンジェン（8・3・07生まれ）に会えました。可愛かった！今年もスーリンとジェンジェンに会えるかな？

Last September I saw older sister pandas, Su Lin (Born on 8/2/05) and Zhen Zhen (Born on 8/3/07). They were cute! Can I see Su Lin and Zhen Zhen again?

パンダ見学の列に25分ほど並び順番待ちました。

We stayed in line for 25 minutes to view Pandas.

最初の部屋です。この親子パンダは誰？

In the first room. Who are these a parent and a child panda?

お母さんパンダバイ・ユンと去年8月生まれの赤ちゃんパンダ・ユン・ジン。

A mother panda, Bai Yun and a baby panda, Yun Zin (born 8/5/2009).

ユン・ジンはお母さんの方を向いてるので、顔が良く見えません。。。。

Yun Zin is facing Bai Yun, a mother panda, so we could not see his face much.....

去年来た時3部屋に分かれ一番奥に赤ちゃんパンダがいました。今回もそうかと思い、さっさと歩いて行くと......そこはもう出口でした。。。。。

When I visited last year, there were 3 viewing rooms, and the baby panda was in the last room. I thought it will be the same this time, too, so I walked fast toward the end of the room.......it was the exit of the Panda Research Center.........

サンディエゴ動物園は全米一の植物園でもあります。70万以上の植物が植えてあります。このきれいなハイビスカスの花は先週土曜日撮影。

San Diego Zoo is also the largest botanical garden in USA. There are over 700,000 of plants. This beautiful Hibiscus flower photo was taken last Saturday there.

ジェンジェン(3歳)とスーリン(5歳)は、9月末に中国四川省パンダ保護センターに旅立ち、向こうの環境にも慣れエンジョイしてるそう。

Su Lin (5 years old) and Zhen Zhen (3 years old) left for China in late September. Their move to China is an essential part of the survival of the giant panda species. The girls, Su Lin and Zhen Zhen have adjusted themselves to the new environment at Giant Panda Research Center in China and have been enjoying themselves.

旅立つ前にもう一度会いたかったです。
I wish I could have seen them again before their departure.

近いうちにまた赤ちゃんパンダ会いに行きたいです。
I want to go see the baby panda again in near future.

15日前友人YWさんとネコのモクシーのとこに遊びに行きました。8日間の大雨・大雪嵐が来る前日です。『雪やこんこ。♪.......犬喜び庭駆け回り、猫はコタツで丸くなる。』 寒いのでモクシーはコタツかな？

"Moxie the Cat in Kotatsu": I went to see my friend YW and her cat Moxie 15 days ago, a day before the 8 day Rain/Snow storm arrived in California.
There is a Japanese children song, "Snow (Yuki)". It goes, "Snow Falling.♪...... Dogs run around the yard in joy. Cats are in the Kotatsu heater and stay round." It was cold, so Moxie must be in the Kotatsu heater.

モクシーはソファーの裏に隠れてました。
Moxie was hiding behind the couch.

コタツの電気を点けるとコタツに入りました。
As soon as my friend turns the Kotatsu Heater on, she entered the Kotatsu heater.


最初は丸くなってました........
First she was round.............


5分もしないうちに、大伸びになって、寝てました。。。。
Less than 5 minutes, Moxie was stretching and sleeping comfortably..........

February 3rd is Setsubun (First Day of Spring) in Japan. There are some traditional customs to do and eat on that day. One of them is eating Futomaki (Rolled Sushi). I will try to make some Rolled Sushi and place the photos on this blog later.

9月6日サンディエゴ動物園のコアラと再会しました。写真と動画をアップします。

"Koalas@San Diego Zoo": We went to San Diego Zoo on 9/6/09 and saw Koalas, too. I will upload the photos and video clips.

20頭ほど飼育され、頻繁に他国の動物園に貸し出しされているらしい。

There are 20 plus Koalas there. Some of them are loaned to another zoo worldside often for a short-term loan.



10頭中3頭だけ眼覚めてました。あとは熟睡中。コアラは1日20時間眠るそう。

3 out of 10 Koalas were awake, and the rest were in deep sleep. Koalas sleep 20 hours a day.

『ディノ・マウンテン』恐竜展が9月7日までサンディエゴ野生動物園で開催中でした。9月5日に見てきました。入場料は4ドルほどでした。

"Dino Mountain" Dinosors Exhibit was held at San Diego Wild Animal Park until 9/7/2009. We saw it on 9/5/2009. The admission was around $4.

この親子が展示されてた場所は木陰で川のせせらぎと風があり、猛暑の中のオアシスでした。最高気温華氏99度（摂氏38度）の中歩き回ったので、ここのベンチで20分以上くつろぎました。

This exhibit location was perfect to take a rest. It was in the shade under trees. It got some breeze, created by the small water falls at the artificial river. We walked around at the high heat of high 99 F (38C) temperature that day, so we sat on a bench there and rested for more than 20 minutes.

From here, tall dinosors, ranging 2 to 4 meters (6 foot 8" to 13 foot 4") appeared.....

その夜はエスコンディードの「マカロニ・グリル」でシーフードパスタなどのディナー食べました。翌日訪れたサンディエゴ動物園のコアラ、北極白熊、なども随時アップします。遅れ気味ですみません。

That night we had a seafood pasta dinner at "Macaroni Grill" in Escondido. I will upload photos of it and photos of Koala, Pola Bears, etc. from San Diego Zoo that I visited the following day later. Sorry for being slow on uploading those photos to my blog.

9月5日『サンディエゴ野生動物園』に遊びに行きました。ＬＡＸ空港から南に2時間半高速を飛ばした、Escondidoにあります。

"San Diego Wild Animal Park" is located in Escondido, California, in San Diego County. It's 2 and a half driving distance from LAX airport. We went there on Saturday, 9/5/2009.
サンディエゴ市方向に南下したあと、東側へ内陸に入ります。本当に野生動物園があるのか不安になってきます。

After driving South toward San Diego city, we took to the East, getting deep in inland. We wondered if Wild Animal Park is really there or not......



30分後やっと『サンディエゴ野生動物園』の入り口にたどり着きました！

30 minutes later, we got to the entrance to "San Diego Wild Animal Park" finally!


『フォト・キャラバン』は1人＄69、『ガイド付きカート』は1人＄35とのこと。『ジャーニーインツーアフリカ・ツアー』はシーズンパス保持者は無料、それ以外は大人＄10です。その『ジャーニーインツーアフリカ・ツアー』にしました。


"Photo Caravan" was $69 per person, "Guided Cart Tour" was $35 per person, and "Journey to Africa Tour" was free for a member or $10 for non-member adult. We got on to "Journey into Africa Tour" to explorer.

キリンの後ろに見えるトラックが「フォト・キャラバン・ツアー」。キリンは敵から身を守るため1日中ほとんど起きてるそう。1日の平均睡眠時間は19－20分とのこと。

The trucks in the back of giraffs are "Photo Caravan Tour". Giraffs stay awake almost all day to protect themselves from the enemies. On the average, a giraffe sleeps 19 to 20 minutes a day.

気持ち良さそうでした。。。。

その日の最高気温は華氏99度（摂氏38度）。大きな日陰は力のあるものが押さえます。木陰に見えるのはアメリカン・バッファロー。

That day's temperature was high at 99 F (38 C). Large shades are occupied by the ones with power. You will see American Buffalos in the shades under the trees.

この動物名を忘れてしまいました。
野生の王国王者であるライオンは1日20時間以上寝るそうです。。キリンとライオンから学べるのは、肉類を食べず草食にすれば睡眠時間が減らせる、ということ。肉を消化するのにそれだけエネルギーが使われているんですね。。。

I forgot the name of this animal.
The guide said Lion, the king of Wild Park, sleeps more than 20 hours a day. I learned from Giraffe and Lion that if you don't eat meat and eat vegetables, you can go by with a short sleep. Digesting meat takes that much of energy.

池にはペリカン、がちょう、かもなどがいました。

At the pond, there were Pelicans, Ducks, Geese, etc.



象は20頭近くいました。この象は飼育員と一緒に人混みすぐそばまで来てくれました。

There are approximately 20 Elephants. This one came close to the crowds with a zoo keeper.

9月6日赤ちゃんパンダを観にサンディエゴ動物園に行きました。

"Baby Pandas@San Diego Zoo": We went to San Diego Zoo on 9/6/09 to see baby panda's.


スーリン（8・2・05生まれ4歳）はあいにくお昼寝中。午前11時35分ごろでした。

Su Lin (4 years old, Born on 8/2/05) was taking a nap. It was around 11:35 AM.


ジェンジェン（8・3・07生まれ2歳）
9ヶ月ぶりにあうジェンジェンは、大きくなりました。下に前のブログリンクを付けます。

今年8月5日に弟が生まれ、お母さんパンダは奥の間で弟の子育て中。ジェンジェンも1人立ちしました。

サンディエゴ動物園ではちょうど前日9月5日（土）は"キッズ無料デー"でした。1年に1度第一土曜日だけ子供の入園料が無料になるとか。今年で24回目だったそう。

It was "Kids Free Day" on 9/5/09, a day before we visited. It seems the first Saturday of September is "Kids Free Day". It was their 24th annual event.

8月5日に生まれた赤ちゃんパンダは、上のパンダ・キャムで見ることができます。また１番目のリンクを開くと赤ちゃんパンダの検診や８月３日のスーリンとジェンジェンの誕生日パーティーの動画が観れます。入園者がニューベービーを見れるのはクリスマス前ごろになるそう。楽しみです。その時またサンディエゴ動物園を訪問します。

The Baby panda born on 8/5/09 can be seen with a Panda cam. If you open the first link, you can watch video clips of the new born baby's first and second medical exams and a birthday party held on 8/3/09 for Su Lin and Zhen Zhen. It will be little before Christmas the new baby panda will be available at the Panda Viewing section. I am looking forward to seeing the new baby panda. I will visit San Diego Zoo again around that time.

4月24日（金）仕事帰りに友人ＹＷさん宅に遊びに行きました。3月7日以来見る飼い猫モクシーは、かなり大きく太めになってました！
Moxie The Cat Needs Diet!?:
Last Friday, 4/24/09, I stopped by at my friend YW's house after work. Her cat, Moxie, got a lot bigger and chubbier than the last time I saw her on 3/7/09!

3月半ばに避妊矯正手術を受けたとかで、その後太めになったとか。。。迷い猫だったのではっきりした誕生日はわかりませんが去年7月生まれの生後9ヶ月ぐらいです。

Moxie got neutered around mid March. After that she gained weight. She was found on the street, so we don't know her birth day, but she seems to be born last July, around 9 month old.

Moxie needs Diet! She will be my diet pal.
She was on the box of "Norton Anti Virus" software and "US Master Tax Guide" book and textbook.
"These are mine. I will not give them to anybody," she seemed to be saying that.

　　11月30日サンディエゴ動物園のキリン宿舎を通りかかると、ちょうど午後12時から1時半の時間限定で、キリンに餌をあげることができました。15分以上並んで、私らも挑戦！

えさはキリン仕様のビスケットが3個で5ドルで売られてました。
キリンの舌がビヨーンと延びて、にゅるっとして気持ち悪かった。でも面白かったです。
終わった後は手を洗ってドライヤーで乾かす施設もそばにありました。
小さいお子さん連れのファミリーに混じって、大人2人キリンに餌やってきました。


Giraffe Feeding@San Diego Zoo:
When we passed by the giraffe building around 12:30 PM on 11/30/08, there was a line for feeding the giraffes from 12 to 1:30 PM, for the specified period only. We lined up for about 15 minutes, and tried.

Buiscuits made for giraffes are sold at $5 for 3. There were 3 giraffes, so we both got 3 each.
The tongs of giraffes extended really long. It was slimy. But it was fun.

After feeding, there was a water faucet and a sink to wash your hands and a dryer to dry them in the back. Two adults joined the lots of families with small children to feed the giraffes.

キリンに餌をあげる前、自分たちもサンディエゴ動物園内のカフェテリアでランチを済ませてました。
時間短縮のため出来合いを頼んだ。ちょうど感謝祭の週末だったので、私はターキー（七面鳥）ラップを頼んだ。友人Ｃさんはチキン・シーザー・ラップ。冷たく冷えててまーまー美味しかった。

Before feeding giraffes, we finished our lunch at a cafeteria in San Diego Zoo. To make it short, we purchased something already made. I got a Turkey Wrap, because it was a Thanksgiving Weekend. My friend C got a Chicken Caesar Wrap. It was cold and so so good.

　11月28日と29日に友人Cさんとテメキュラとサンディエゴに行きました。
順番が逆ですが、お待ちかねと思うので、29日サンディエゴ動物園に赤ちゃんパンダを見に行ったときの動画と写真をアップします。この赤ちゃんパンダ「ジェンジェン」に会ったのは2度目。前回は9月19日、2ヶ月前でした。

12時頃行った時は残念ながら、赤ちゃんパンダは木の上で爆睡中でした。お母さんパンダのバイユンはランチのあとのエクササイズをしてました。

From 11/28/08 to 11/29/08, I went to Temecula and San Diego with my friend C. I am jumping the chronological order, but I believe many people are waiting for baby panda Zhen Zhen's photos and video clips, I will upload them first of the series from the last trip. This was the 2nd time to meet Zhen Zhen. Previouslyl I met her on 9/19/08, about 2 months ago.

When visited around 12 noon, the baby panda Zhen Zhen was sleeping on a tree. She did not move at all. Mother panda, Bai Yun, was doing exercise after lunch.

We lined up to view pandas again around 2 PM, because I wanted to see baby panda Zhen Zhen when she is awake and active. After waiting for 18 minutes, we were able to ener the Panda viewing area.

11月５日友人宅の前の道路で子猫が立ち往生していました。お隣に４匹猫を飼ってる家や、他にも数匹猫を飼っている家があるので、そこんちの子かと思い預かり、あとできいてみたところ、どこんちの子でもなかったとか。２－３日世話をするうちに可愛くなり、そのまま飼い猫にすることになりました。

名前は「モクシー」（たくましいヤツ）と名付けられました。
近所の猫好きな人の推定では生後４ヶ月。３週間前発見されるまでの間どこにどうやって生活していたのか、謎です。今日はモクシーを紹介します。

Her right side neighbors have 4 cats and other neighbors have 3 or 4 cats, so she thought that kitty cat might belong to one of them. She waited until they came home and asked, but that kitty cat did not belong to any of them.

As she took care the kitty cat, she wanted to keep her for good, because she was so cute. The cat was named "Moxie". Her neighbors estimate the cat is now about 4 months old. It's a mystery how she ended up on the street in Torrance and how she survived over 3 months. I thought it's about time to properly introduce Moxie to my blog viewers.

2匹の犬、『ラブ』と『ココア』が飼い主を探しています。今日で生後8週間だそうです。

Two puppies, "Love" and "Cocoa" are looking for homes. They are 8 weeks old today.


１．この写真の茶色い犬が『ラブ』ちゃん。

1. This brown dog is "Love".


２．この写真の一番左の黒い犬が『ココア』ちゃん。

2. The left black dog is "Cocoa".

　　
父犬はラブラドールとチワワのミックスで、
母犬はプードルと？？？のミックスです。
大きくなっても、１５から20パウンドぐらいだそうです。
ロサンゼルス郊外、トーレンス方面にいます。

もし、誰か良い飼い主さんいたら、よろしくお願いします。

Their Father Dog is a mixture of Labrador Retriever and Chihuahua.
Their Mother Dog is a mixture of Poodle and Unknown dog.
They will probably grow up to 15 to 20 pounds maximum.
They are now in Torrance, near LAX airport area, in Los Angeles suburb.

　　　サンディエゴ動物園には、北極クマ(白クマ）の館もある。
そこへは入り口左手からスカイファリ・エリアル・トラム（ロープウエー）で５分と待ち時間で行ける。風で少し揺れるので怖かった。高所恐怖症の人はバスか歩いて行ったほうがいいかも。。
カルーク、チノック、タトキックの3頭のうち2頭が交代でお目見えするらしい。(動物園ブログより）

北極クマ(白クマ）
オスの成獣で体長220～280cmで体重250～500kg。メスは一回り小さく体長180～250cmで体重100～300kgほど。生息地や食糧事情での個体差が激しく、中には800kgに肥大化するオスも確認されている。

アラスカ、グリーンランド、シベリア等、北極周辺の陸地および氷上に生息している。
肉食性の強い雑食で、アザラシ等の鰭足哺乳類、魚類のほか、海鳥、イチゴなどの果実、コンブや貝なども食べる。泳ぎが得意で、時速6.5km程で65km 程度の距離を泳ぐことができると言われる。





さてお目当ての北極クマ(白クマ）の館に入ると、１頭が水槽でデーンとダイビング中。
もう一頭は陸の隅っこにいました。この2頭が入れ替わり立ち代り泳いだり、陸にあがったり。。。

その大きさと豪快さに、子供たちの黄色い歓声があがります。
水槽で泳ぐ２頭の北極クマをビデオに収録しました。

There are Three Polar Bears at San Diego Zoo.
You can take a Skyfari® aerial tram from the left side of the entrance to get to Polar Bear House.
It takes about 5 minutes plus the waiting time for the tram. The aerial tram shakes a little with winds up in the sky. I recommend taking a bus or walking there if you are afraid of heights.
Two of three Polar bears, Kalluk, Chinook, and Tatqiq will be there to see you, according to the San Diego Zoo blog.

Polar Bears:
The polar bear is the largest predator that lives on land. Adult males weigh 352–680 kg (780–1,500 lb) and measure 2.4–3 m (7.9–9.8 ft) in length. Adult females are roughly half the size of males and normally weigh 150–249 kg (330–550 lb), measuring 1.8–2.4 metres (5.9–7.9 ft) in length.

The Arctic is home to millions of seals, which become prey. Polar bears hunt primarily at the interface between ice, water, and air; they only rarely catch seals on land or in open water.

Polar bears are excellent swimmers and have been seen in open Arctic waters as far as 200 mi (320 km) from land. Their 12 cm (4.7 in) layer of fat adds buoyancy and insulates them from the cold. Polar bears can swim 6 miles/hour.

When we visited the Polar bear house, one was diving and swimming. Another was resting in the back on the surface. Those two kept changing positions, diving, swimming, and resting....

There were a few dozens of elementary school students in a group. They were cheering and screeming when those big Polar bears were diving, swimming, and pushing.

I took a short video clip of those two Polar bears swimming in the pool above.

サンディエゴ動物園にはコアラも5頭ほどいました。
頻繁に世界中に短期貸し出しされているそう。
サンディエゴ動物園コアラサイトによれば、飼育係付き添いでファーストクラスの快適な旅をしているそう。

樹上で生活をし、オスはハーレムをつくる。おもに夜行性。性質はおだやか。
陸上をゆっくりと歩いて、木から木へ移動する。主食はユーカリの葉。
離乳期の子は母親の軟便を食べ、消化を助ける腸内のバクテリアをもらう。

この動物園では、ハーレム 見かけませんでしたねー。

コアラ舘は、入り口から案内バス乗場に向かう途中にありました。
朝10時過ぎは皆さん丸くなって熟睡中。

午後3時過ぎに再訪した時は、お昼寝しながらユーカリの葉を食べてました。
それってかなり器用なﾜｻﾞ。

There were about 5 Koalas at San Diego Zoo.
Scientific Name: Phascolarctos cinereus

LIFESPAN:
Koalas can live as long as 17 years, although high mortality rates (due to car fatalities and dogs) for males lower their life expectancy to 2 to 10 years.

BEHAVIOR:
Nocturnal mammals, koalas sleep for up to 16 hours a day. They are arboreal, which means that they live in trees. They do not live in big groups but rather prefer to be alone.

The zoo often loans Koalas to all over the world for temporary loans.

According to the San Diego Zoo Koala site,
"The San Diego Zoo sends koalas all over the world for temporary loans. To make sure the traveling koala will be comfortable, a keeper travels with it to its new home and stays with it until it settles in. These furry travelers are so important they don't get checked into the baggage hold—actually they often travel first class."

The Koala house is located near the entrance/exit of the zoo, and we passed there to go to the double-Decker bus stop.
When we passed around 10 AM, everyone was in deep sleep.

When we passed by little passed 3 PM, they were sleeping and eating Eucalyptus leaves at the same time.
They were adorable and peaceful.

　　9月19日レドンドビーチの自宅を7:10AMに出て、サンディエゴ動物園まで車を走らせた。
　お目当ては赤ちゃんパンダのジェンジェン1歳1ヶ月とその家族パンダ。
途中友人を迎えに行き到着は9:50AM。距離にして125マイル（200キロ）。

　8月16日サンディエゴ動物園のパンダ・キャムについて記載しました。↓

　2階建てバスにのり、園内全体の案内をきく。バスを降りた頃11時30ＡＭ。
それから、パンダ親子の住むジャイアント・パンダ・リサーチ・センターまで炎天下を歩く。
ロープがはってあり、順番に並んで入って見るようになってました。中に入ったとき、12時10分前ぐらい。

お父さんのガオガオはどっしり座って、笹の枝をむしゃむしゃ食べてました。
3歳のスーリンが次ぎの部屋に居ました。笹とじゃれたり、食べたり。

そして一番奥にお母さんのバイユンと赤ちゃんのジェンジェンの部屋がありました。
お母さんのバイユンはどっしり地べたに座り込んで、ばりばり笹の枝を口で割りさき、お食事中。赤ちゃんのジェンジェンは、木の上でお昼寝中でした。

　12時2分ぐらい前になって、お母さんがバリバル食事する音で起き上がり、ヨチヨチ木から下り、お母さんのすぐそばで、食事を始めた。
やっといいショットがばしばし撮れる。でもそれもつかの間。
後ろの人が待っているので、一旦外に出てまた並びなおすように係りの人がマイクで案内してました。

可愛かった また見に行きたい。

I left home in Redondo Beach around 7:10 AM to visit San Diego Zoo on 9/19/2008. On the way I picked up my friend, and we arrived there around 9:50 AM.

We took a double-Decker bus ride to hear the guidance of the tour-guide and get familiarized with the zoo.
We got off the bus at 11:30AM and walked to the Giant Panda Research Center in the sun.

We arrived at the center around 11:50 AM. There was a line to enter and view the giant pandas.
Gao Gao, a father panda, was there in the first room, sitting on the ground and eating bamboos.
A three year old Su Lin was in the next room, sitting down or moving around on the ground and eating bamboos.
Bai Yun, a mother panda, and Zhen Zhen, a baby panda, were in the last room. Bai Yun was sitting on the ground and eating bamboos, making heavy cracking noise.

Zhen Zhen was sleeping on a tree for a while. Around 2 minutes before noon, Zhen Zhen woke up with the cracking sound her mother was making with bamboos and came down from a tree. She was really cute! I captured that moment in a short video clip.
They were having lunch. Going there little before 12 noon was a good timing!

We wanted to keep standing there and capture the baby panda, Zhen Zhen, in more photos and movie clips, but the keeper told us to keep moving for those waiting behind in line.

They were adorable I want to visit them again soon.

サンディエゴ動物園に4頭のパンダがいる。
8月6日3歳と1歳のパンダ姉妹の誕生パーティーが開かれたばかり。可愛い
パンダキャム（定点カメラ）が数台設置され、24時間パンダの様子をのぞける。
また、お気に入りのショットを絵葉書にしてＥメールできる。

さっそく、昨日定期的にのぞいてみた。
1歳の赤ちゃんパンダ珍珍（ジェンジェン)とそのお母さん白雲（バイユン)が頻繁にカメラに映っていた。

夕方6時半から7時すぎ、しばらく映らなかったので、もう寝床の別部屋に移動したと思った。
1時間ほど前（8月16日になった午前1時）にのぞくと、むしゃむしゃ夜食中。夜行性なのか？

このパンダ・キャムの始まりをスキップ( Skip )せずに待つと8月6日に行われた誕生パーティーのビデオクリップが流れる。3歳と1歳になったパンダ姉妹が3段の笹を氷で固めたケーキとじゃれて可愛い。

オリンピックＴＶ観戦と仕事のあいまにパンダをのぞいて癒されてます。
近いうちにサンディエゴ動物園まで行ってこのかわいいパンダたちにご対面したい。

There are 4 giant pandas at San Diego Zoo.
Two sister pandas, 3 year old and 1 year old just celebrated their birthdays on August 6, 2008.

There are some panda cams at the zoo to monitor activities of the pandas.
You can watch them on live 24/7 and capture a moment, make a postcard with the photo, and email it to yourself and friends.

I watched the panda cam yesterday from time to time.
A 1 year old panda, Zhen Zhen and her mother Bai Yun often appeared on the panda cam.

From around 6:30 PM to 7:20 PM, I did not see them at all.
I thought they all went to sleeping at a different room.
About one hour ago (8/16/08 1 AM PDT), I looked at the panda cam again, and there it was.
A panda was eating bamboo leaves for heavy loads. It must be her mid-night snack.
Do they stay awake at night? I am not sure.

At the beginning of the Panda cam streaming, you will see a short video footage of a birthday party of Zhen Zhen and Su Lin, held on 8/6/2008. They are enjoying the 3 layer iced bamboo cake and gifts. They are adorable.

Lately I have been busy watching the Olympic game coverages from 8 or 9 PM to 3 to 5 AM.
I feel relaxed by looking at the pandas on the panda cam from time to time.
Let's visit San Diego Zoo and see them in person soon.

Bai Yun (Mother) Born on 9/7/1991 at Wolong Giant Panda Research Center in China.
She moved to San Diego Zoo on 9/10/1996.

Gao Gao (Father) Found March 1993 in the nature of Panda Conservatory district in China.
Estimated to be born in 1990. He was cared at Wolong research center.
He came to San Diego Zoo in January 2003.

Su Lin (Daughter) Born on 8/2/2005 at San Diego Zoo.
She is the second baby of Bai Yun and Gao Gao.

Zhen Zhen (Daughter) Born on 8/3/2007 at San Diego Zoo.
She is the third baby of Bai Yun and Gao Gao.

体重20キロの猫を探していませんか?
　　でかい! 　ここ数日アメリカではこの猫の話題で持ち切りだ。44ポンド、約20キロ。
New Jersey のシェルターで先週土曜日からあずかっているそう。

歴代記録で一番重かった猫は1980年代にオーストラリアで亡くなった46ポンド15オンス(約22キロ)の猫とか。このデブ猫はその記録更新できませんでしたが、かなり重い。

その後ギネス世界記録帳は、猫の重さのカテゴリーを廃止したそう。猫の飼い主が記録更新のために、猫に害を与えるかもしれないから。

　　　迷い猫か、捨て猫のようだった。とりあえず動物好きな人に預けら、プリンセス・チャンクと名づけられた。

　　　7月30日に全国版ニュースでこの猫のことが取り上げられ、翌日元飼い主がシェルターに出頭。この不況のあおりで、家が競売にかけられ、この猫が飼えなくなったとのこと。この猫は10歳。メスではなく、オスでパウダーという名で呼ばれていたそう。

そして、今朝8月1日、ＡＢＣ局の「グッド・モーニング・アメリカ」ショーにこのデブ猫生出演。
さっき放送された。

　来週火曜日に獣医の健康診断・検診を受けるそう。

来週にはこのプリンス チャンクを引き取れるそう。
良かったですねー!
遠くはロンドン、カリフォルニアからも電話で引き取りオファーがあったそう。
申し込み者数、500人。

残念ながら、このシェルターにいる他の200ヒキの猫の引き取り手は見つからなかったそう。
去年１年間でこのシェルターでは1000ヒキの猫を安楽死させた。シェルターに来た猫の約3分の1。

Is anybody looking for a 44 pound (20 kg) fat cat?
She is huge! This fat cat has been a talk of town in USA for a few days.
An animal shelter in New Jersey has been taking a temporary custody of this fat cat.　　An animal lover is taking care of it in the mean time.

The largest cat on record weighed 46 pounds, 15 ounces. That cat, who lived in Australia, died in the 1980s. The Guinness World Records has since dropped the category, fearing cat owners might harm their animals in an attempt to break the record.

This fat cat was wondering on streets and found last Saturday.
This cat appeared on several TV news coverages, and her former owner came forward on 7/31/08. The former owner could not keep the fat cat, because her home was foreclosed, as a result of this bad economy.

It also turned out that this cat was not a princess but a prince. He is a 10 year old cat, and called "Powder" by his former owner.

And then, this morning, 8/1/2008, this fat cat appeared on ABC's "Good Morning America" TV show.
It was just aired on a national TV network.

This cat will get a full medical check up next Tuesday.
I hope he will find a new home soon.

44 pound cat, Prince Chunk, was adopted !
A family in southern New Jersey will get the 44-pound "Prince Chunk" next week, according to the Camden County Animal Shelter. The shelter won't disclose the family's identity.

About 500 people applied to adopt the 10-year-old cat found lumbering around Voorhees.

Thousands of people from as far away as London and California called to inquire about adopting the cat, Harr said. Unfortunately, she said no one who contacted the shelter was interested in adopting any of the more than 200 other cats and kittens in the shelter's care.
